FAQ

  Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for booking your snow holiday at Summit Ridge Alpine Lodge in Falls Creek. Below is some information you may require when getting to and from our lodge, and during your stay with us.

Where is Falls Creek

Falls Creek is situated in North East Victoria approximately 4 hours from Melbourne Airport by car. At its base is the scenic town of Mt Beauty. During winter the only access to Falls Creek is via Mt Beauty but in summer you can drive over the high plains from Omeo.

What does ski in-ski out mean

Once the village roads are covered in snow you are able to ski from the lodge to the lifts and then back to the lodge after your days’ skiing. Summit Ridge is ideally positioned high in the village which makes it easy to ski back to the lodge even late in the season.

Where is Summit Ridge Lodge

Summit Ridge Lodge is located on Schuss St which is the highest road in Falls Creek Village. If you are driving and the village is open to traffic you will turn right off Bogong High Plains Rd (coming from Mt Beauty) onto Falls Creek Rd. Take the second road hard left into Slalom St (Winterhaven corner), stay on this road until it forks and take the road going uphill ahead of you. This is only a short road that goes up to Koki Lodge and you then turn hard right up hill into Schuss St. Continue on this road up the hill past Frueauf Village and we are the next lodge on the right.

If walking from Bogong High Plains Road you take the stairs up hill from the Accomodation Transfer Service building and continue uphill crossing roads where required. At the top of the last flight of stairs turn right and walk a further 100 metres to the Lodge.

What are the arrival procedures

Village roads open: you will be allowed half an hour to unload the car before returning to the entrance and then you will be directed to park your car in the long term carpark and a free shuttle will bring you back to the lodge.

Village roads closed: If  the village roads are closed due to snow then you will unload the car at the Accommodation Transfer Service Terminal, park your car where directed and a free shuttle will bring you back to the Terminal. You need to take the Accommodation Transfer Service up to the lodge.  This costs $20 per adult one way and $13 per child one way (kids under 5 are free). A return shuttle time is also booked on arrival and will need to be altered 24 hours prior to leaving if you change your departure time.

What is Resort Entry

In winter there is a resort entry fee payable at Howmans Gap (about 8 kms from Fall’s Creek) and costs between $40 and $60 per night per vehicle depending on length of stay. If staying for more than 7 days it may be more economical to purchase a season’s entry pass. Passes can be bought online at    http://www.fallscreek.com.au/ResortEntry

Is there another way to travel up from Mt Beauty

There is a bus service available from Mt Beauty where you can park your car. This avoids the hassle of carrying/fitting chains and paying for overnight parking at Falls Creek where you don’t really need your car.

How can I get to Falls Creek if not wanting to drive.

Do I need to carry chains

It is a legal requirement to carry wheel chains in cars on the road up to Falls Creek during the declared snow season. (June to early October) and these can be hired at several locations in Mt Beauty. You will be directed to chain fitting bays if chains are required to be fitted and please obey signs and directions on when to fit them —they are for your own and other cars safety.

Do you organise lift tickets and ski hire

We can organise lift tickets and packages for you but lift tickets only are cheaper bought on line through www.skifalls.com.au . There is a ski hire shop just across the road from the lodge (which we highly recommend)  www.centralsnowsports.com.au and they have all the latest gear at competitive prices. They also pick up the gear from the lodge at the end of your stay.

During “white spaces” discount periods, as a partner lodge with the Falls Creek Lift Company we are able to offer 50% discounts for lessons, tickets and rental for 3 consecutive days or greater during low season, and 30% discounts for shoulder season. See the lift company website for applicable dates. www.skifalls.com.au. These packages must be ordered and paid for in advance.

When can I check in

Room check in time is 2:00 pm and room check out time is 10:00 am. However, the lodge has plenty of storage space and the spa/sauna room has a shower and bathroom so can be used as a storage/change area for arrivals and departures outside the above times. If your room is available earlier then we are happy to allow access before 2pm.

Do we need to book for dinner

If dinner is included in your package it is advisable to book a time for your first night and then we organise a time each morning at breakfast for the following nights.

If dinner is not included you will need to book when you wish to dine in.

If you are arriving after 6pm on your first night please contact us on 03 5758 3800 to advise us of your approximate arrival time and also whether you will be in time for dinner —the restaurant opens at 6:00 pm and the kitchen closes at approximately 8:30 pm.

The restaurant is fully licensed (no BYO) and a full range of bar drinks and wines is available and any extra meal courses and drinks will be charged to your room account and payable on check out. Is Wi- Fi available

We have free Wi-Fi in the lodge and when you attempt to use the internet you will be asked for a room no. and password which you will find on the back of the door in your room. Each room can use up to 4 devices with a total of 200MB per day. We have only put these restrictions in to prevent downloading of movies or games that slow the whole process for everyone —if you need more capacity please let us know and we can arrange that.
